Two-piece aluminum wall hanger turned from bar and rod stock on a vertical mill and lathe — class machine-shop safety project.
Software

Duration

// Project Notes
Objective: Use the vertical mill and lathe to machine the part dimensions given.
Problem: Edges of the base plate weren't smooth — slight burrs at the edges.
Solution: Another shallow pass on the vertical mill to remove the burrs (or a file if they were small enough).
Built in my machine-shop safety class out of aluminum bar and rod. Parts were dimensioned in SolidWorks first, then machined. The base was made on a vertical mill — flatten all surfaces, cut edges, drill holes and countersinks. The hanger arm was turned on a lathe. The blue dye on the base is layout fluid for accurate hole positions. My initials are engraved on the side of the hanger arm.
